Jakob is interested in understanding the processes that govern biological systems at the molecular level. His research is focused on the simulation of nucleic acids, inparticular mRNA based regulatory elements, so-called riboswitches. In his PhD project he employs a broad range of computational methods, ranging from classical molecular dynamics simulation and enhanced sampling methods to dimensionality reduction, clustering and machine learning algorithms.
