Graduate School Chemistry

Since 2008 all doctoral students of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Konstanz are members of the Graduate School Chemistry (GCh). It is the pivotal aim of the GCh to offer its doctoral students a structured, research-centered education and to further scientific exchange both within the Department of Chemistry and between the different Departments within the Faculty of Sciences.

Further details on the GCh can be found in the statutes as of August 10, 2011. The issued date also serves as valid for the qualification measures which are described in the statutes. Crucial elements of the qualification concept for doctoral students are in-depth discussions on the progress and aims of their ongoing research projects at certain points (after 6 months and, if applicable, after 2 years) and participation in the non-scientific and scientific personal development program. This educational program includes courses on “Transferable Skills” and appropriate courses as well as scientific presentations of invited speakers.

Representation of the doctoral students within the Executive Board of the GCh guarantees that their interests are respected and taken into account. Additional information as to the GCh, the current statutes of the GCh, and the educational program is available through the links provided below.

Course Offer

Doctoral students of the GCh are required to attend two 2-day courses out of the area "Transferable skills" during their PhD thesis (equivalent: one 2-day course and two 1-day courses). Additionally, the participation in 10 talks is mandatory. Of these talks, at least five have to be out of the talk series "GDCh-Kolloquien".

The following links provide course offers by the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology (KoRS-CB), the Academic Staff Development (ASD) and the Career Service of the University of Konstanz which are also open to members of the GCh (if capacity is available):
